Our appointment system uses a clinical priority system to make sure that patients with urgent problems are seen quickly, usually within two weeks. Patients with less serious conditions may need to wait six or more weeks for an appointment. Our goal is to ensure that patients do not  experience unnecessary delays that could affect  their outcome, but there are only limited appointments with Dr Licina as he spends Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the  operating theatre.

If you are offered an appointment with another specialist, it is because our triage system has determined that your condition is unlikely to need surgery, and that you are best treated by another specialist who has expertise in nonoperative treatments. Rest assured that Dr Licina works closely with the specialist who will see you, and together they will discuss your case if needed. If it is considered that surgery may be an option, a prompt appointment will be made with Dr Licina.

The time you spend at your appointment with Dr Licina may range from an hour to many hours, depending on the outcome. After you arrive and the administrative details are finalised, Dr Licina’s nurse will interview you to  determine the particulars of your problem. She will then discuss the findings with Dr Licina, who will review all the information and scans to better understand your problem. He will then see you, ask you questions and examine you. He will discuss the diagnosis and treatment plan.

Sometimes, he will order more scans or injections which are often done on the same day. You may need to return afterwards for another assessment. It is also possible that he will refer you to the rehabilitation team at BackSpace, and you may be able to be seen there immediately after your appointment with Dr Licina.

Dr Licina does not usually see you if you have an active legal claim, except in urgent circumstances; for example, in the presence of spinal cord compression or a fracture. He is happy to see you once the claim has been settled, as a private patient. Dr Licina will see you if you have a WorkCover or insurance claim, but only within 6 months of your injury.
